La maison rouge poursuit son cycle d'expositions consacrées aux scènes artistiques de villes considérées à tort comme « périphériques » sur la carte du monde de l'art, en mettant à l'honneur la ville de Johannesburg en Afrique du Sud. Couramment appelée Joburg ou Jozi par ses habitants, Johannesburg est une mégalopole cosmopolite qui regroupe plus de 6 millions de personnes. L'exposition présente une cinquantaine d'artistes nés ou vivant à Joburg, mettant l'accent sur l'effervescence artistique de ces vingt dernières années. Elle permet de découvrir, aux côtés d'artistes déjà reconnus internationalement comme Jane Alexander, Kendell Geers ou William Kentridge, de jeunes artistes encore peu montrés en France comme, entre autres, Kudzanai Chiurai, Zanele Muholi, Mary Sibande ou Mikhael Subotsky, ainsi qu'une jeune génération de photographes formée par le Market Photo Workshop.

La maison rouge is pursuing its series of exhibitions devoted to the art scene in cities said - erroneously - to be « peripheral » on the map of the art world. This time, the city of Johannesburg, South Africa is in the spotlight. Commonly referred to as Joburg or Jozi by its inhabitants, Johannesburg is a cosmopolitan megapolis with a population of more than 6 million. The exhibition presents some fifty artists native to or living in Joburg, with a focus on the artistic effervescence of the last twenty years. Alongside artists having already earned an International reputation (e.g. Jane Alexander, Kendell Geers and William Kentridge), it presents young artists whose work has rarely been shown in France (e.g. Kudzanai Chiurai, Zanele Muholi, Mary Sibande and Mikhael Subotsky...) as well as a generation of young photographers that trained at the Market Photo Workshop.
